Aldar Academy

How can I enroll my child at Aldar Academy?

All students are referred to Aldar Academy by the school district of residence or through Private Pay placement.  When school districts refer a potential student, they provide verbal and written information to Aldar Academy such as academic and behavioral histories; social service involvement; current IEP's (Individual Educational Program); special challenges and any current needs to successfully accomplish their education while at Aldar Academy. As a school we review this information and determine whether we are able to meet the student's needs. If we determine that we are able to meet the potential students needs, we will arrange for a tour and pre-enrollment interview. Once Aldar Academy and the Parent/guardian (s) have agreed on placement your child can be enrolled.

What is an IEP?

An IEP is an abbreviated term for Individual Educational Program. An IEP is a detailed written description of your child's educational program. This written document is prepared annually, at least once per year, by the local school district representative during an IEP meeting with parents/guardian, current school administration, current teacher and possible mental health professionals.

Can I, as a parent/guardian, request and IEP meeting?

Yes. As the parent/guardian with legal Educational Rights, you can request an IEP meeting. Your school district will hold an IEP meeting at least annually to check the progress of your child's educational program however, an emergency IEP meeting can always be called if a pertinent issue needs to be immediately addressed.

What is a 26.5 meeting?

26.5 refers to the Government code Chapter 26.5.  This chapter can make available mental health and  educational services to those students that qualify. Often a referral for a 26.5 can occur post an IEP meeting, where additional services are being requested.
