K-3 Continuing Ideas for Physical Education at Home

Here are some addition ideas that can be done in the house or front/backyard (if available), to supplement our Physical Education during this time of closure:

  • Use chalk or tape (Gorilla tape works well) to make hopscotch or 4 square on the side walk, back patio or even garage floor.
  • Use chalk to create an obstacle course outside.  Something along the lines of this:

  • Create a Scavenger Hunt around the house/property.  Examples:
    • Find something to jump (2 feet land) over
    • Find something to crawl under
    • Find something to pick up with one hand
    • Find something to pick up with two hands
    • Find something you can catch with one hand
    • Find something you need to catch with two hands
    • Find something to hop (1 foot lands) on
    • Find something to hop (1 foot lands) over
  • Create a grab bag or box of activities, exercises/activities written on small pieces of paper & student pulls out.  Examples:
    • __ number of push ups
    • Wall sit for __ seconds
    • Underhand toss a ball/sock in the air and catch it __ times
    • Roll a ball/sock at a target (empty bottle, etc.) and knock it over __ times
    • Overhand throw a ball/sock at a target __ times
    • Jump as far as you can & mark it.  Try to get past your mark on next jump
    • Jump rope __ times in a row or for __ seconds
    • Have the students come up with their own
  • This is a great link from the organization SHAPE (Society of Health and Physical Educators), specific to at home PE ideas during this pandemic.  All you need is a towel, a smooth floor surface (for a few), and a little open space.
  • This is a link to a series of fitness activities/games, also from the organization SHAPE.  The cards they reference are at the end of the link, they can be printed & colored in or you can make your own simply with paper, if a printer is not available.
